Headcanons:

• Sebastian appointed Kagome as Vincent’s maid while he recovered from the tragedy, that included tending to his wounds and other needs as he healed. 
• Kagome was skeptical at first, especially when she did not feel it was right that her attention was to go to someone else when she rather take care of Ciel.
• But she agreed to it nonetheless, and the first two weeks were mostly easy for her as she tended to his wounds and medication despite Vincent being in a coma.
• Once Vincent woke up, he became curious about the female maid Ciel hired on his own.
• It was not due to her gender or her ability to fight enemies, but it was the way she carried herself gracefully.
• If anything, Vincent would have believed she was from nobility if she was not dressed as a maid.
• As time went on, Ciel told Kagome it was best for Sebastian to protect his father as enemies would more likely target him.
• It was then that Vincent objected to the idea and said he had no problem having Kagome by his side.
• Sebastian and Ciel immediately became suspicious as to why Vincent, of all people, would want the priestess by his side when Sebastian was, at least to their knowledge, more powerful.
• Vincent: “This is by no means an insult to Sebastian’s skills and ability as a butler, but I would like those lurking in the shadows to come out thinking they have a chance to attack. No doubt having Miss Kagome will convince them they are stronger.”
• Kagome: “Are you underestimating me, Lord Phantomhive?”
• Vincent: “Quite the opposite, Miss Kagome; this is a chance to demonstrate to all, both friends and foes, they are not to mess with the Phantomhive family nor its butlers and maids.”
• Ciel is still kept in a cloud of curiousness as to why his father would want to keep Kagome by his side.
• Whenever they are left alone for dinner or tea, he does question his father’s motives.
• Ciel: “Is there reason to the decision of having Kagome by your side, father?”
• Vincent: “Ciel, everything that I do has a reason, and I do believe Miss Kagome will be a person of worth to the Phantomhive manor. Heed my words, Ciel, we are to keep her close and out of enemy hands. Having her turn against us would spell out the Phantomhive’s doom.”
• Kagome does have an idea as to why Vincent wants her close, but chooses to remain silent until she is certain.
• But she does get warning from Sebastian time to time when they are alone.
• Sebastian: “Beware, priestess. Some demons lurk with the looks of angels.”
• Kagome: “Should you of all people be giving me that warning?”
• Sebastian: “Perhaps I’m not the worst of the corrupted devils taking shelter on these lands, priestess.”
